What to know before microsuction
Answers to some of the most common questions about ear examinations and ear wax removal.
Does microsuction hurt?
Microsuction is generally well tolerated. You may hear noise from the suction equipment, and some people experience mild discomfort if wax is particularly hard or close to a sensitive part of the ear.
Do I need to use ear drops before my appointment?
Not everyone needs to. In some cases, softening wax before treatment may make removal easier. Ask Clear Ear Solutions when you arrange your appointment.
Can both ears be treated at the same appointment?
Yes, where wax is present in both ears and treatment is appropriate.
How long does an appointment take?
The time varies depending on how much wax is present, its consistency and how straightforward it is to remove. Clear Ear Solutions can provide the expected appointment length when booking.
What happens if there is no wax?
Your ears can still be examined and you will be advised about what has been seen. If wax is not the likely cause of your symptoms, further assessment may be recommended.
Do you offer home visits?
Yes. Standard home visits are available every Monday from £70, depending on how local the appointment is to Peacehaven. Emergency home visits start from £100 and are subject to availability and location.
When are appointments available?
Clinic appointments are available all day on alternate Saturdays and Sundays. Standard home visits are available every Monday from £70. Emergency home visits start from £100 and are subject to availability.
Is microsuction suitable for everyone?
Not necessarily. Your ear history and the examination findings are considered before treatment. In some situations, another type of medical or ear-care assessment may be more appropriate.
When should I seek urgent medical advice?
Sudden hearing loss, severe pain, significant discharge, bleeding, recent trauma or rapidly worsening symptoms should not simply be assumed to be ear wax. Seek appropriate medical advice.
