What is microsuction?
Microsuction is a method used to remove excess ear wax using a small suction tube. Before treatment, the ear is examined so the clinician can assess the ear canal and identify whether wax is present.
Where microsuction is appropriate, wax is removed carefully while the clinician continues to view the ear canal. Unlike ear irrigation, the procedure does not rely on flushing the ear with water.
What happens at your appointment?
- We talk through your symptoms and relevant ear history.
- Your ears are examined before any treatment is carried out.
- If wax is present and removal is appropriate, microsuction is performed.
- You are given relevant aftercare and ear-health advice.
Possible symptoms of excess ear wax
Wax build-up may be associated with muffled or reduced hearing, a blocked sensation, itching, discomfort, tinnitus, pressure or problems with hearing aids. These symptoms can also have other causes, so examination is important.
Appointment availability: clinic appointments are available all day on alternate Saturdays and Sundays. Monday home visits start from £70 depending on location, and emergency home visits start from £100.
